Default SQL Server data type

I have a table and the PrimaryID field datatype is set to BigInt, Identity set to 'Yes, no replication', inc by 1.

My question is, I delete old ID's which are old to save space, but the auto increment will keep incrementing.

At what time does the DB stop dishing out ID's, i.e 9999999999

Or do you have to compact to db like access??

I believe it will keep on until it reaches the maximum for the field type. I *think* you can reset the counter by turning off the seed, saving, then turning it back on. I don't know what that'd do to any existing ID's in the db though...

Tim
