    What is the difference (or what does each indicate) between urls that begin with https:// and pages that end with the extension .shtml???<BR><BR>

    HttpS:// is an extension of the http:// protocol where "s" means "secure". So all data between the browser and the server is encrypted and then passed on to the wire -where a hacker can tap data and get crucial information.<BR><BR>.shtml on the other hand is a file ext usually statnding for pre processed HTML and is not in anyway relatedto https// although shtml files can be also sent over secure connections.
