i am waiting for an external applcation to create a file, so i want to poll the directory until this file exsists.
i could use the following, but this would just tie up the processor:

do
if oFSO.FileExists(.......) then exit do
loop

any other suggestions?
ASP is not intrinsicly designed to do this. It is designed to execute as quickly as possible and then stop.

If you could create the file yourself, or instantiate a DLL which creates the file, your ASP page will wait for the DLL to finish executing...

However, if the program is going to take a long time, IIS may kill the ASP process anyway.

Craig.
.. a separate APP.

We had to do this to generate a couple hundred bar codes.

But, doing the DO..LOOP is a terrible idea because it will hog resources until it is finished executing. ASP doesn't come with a DoEvents (or whatever that was in VB).

A separate COM is your only solution. Checkout http://www.serverobjects.com

-Doug
