I have a process that runs through 50 records at a time. It was previously updating each record one at a time which obviously meant a hit on our sql server for each record to update. I decided to try creating a string of update queries such as..

do while whatever
sql = "update table set field = 1 where this = that"
tmpsql = tmpsql & sql & ";"
loop

tmpsql = left(tmpsql,len(tmpsql)-1)

conn.execute(tmpsql)

This actually took longer to execute this one batch query than it did to execute each query one by one. Is there any way I can optimize it to run this any faster? I have 255000 records to update and at this pace, it's going to take about a week to run through all of them. I've also tried a stored procedure, but again, it also takes about 14 seconds longer to execute. Thanks.
