Default cookie & IIS question

I was looking at some of the header information sent with the response on my website. I'm a bit confused by something though. Here's the response:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Microsoft-IIS/4.0
Date: Thu, 03 Jan 2002 15:16:21 GMT
Connection: close
Content-Length: 5582
Content-Type: text/html
Set-Cookie: ASPSESSIONIDGGGGGRCK=KNOEMPCBPEBCPDPHDLGIEEBG; path=/
Cache-control: private

I'm trying to figure out why the "Set-Cookie" line is there, especially when I'm not setting any. It begins with "ASPSESSION" so I originally thought that maybe ASP added this automatically since it is an ASP site. Do I have to disable session state to remove this line?

    Default Yes

The cookie which is being set is the ASP session ID.

If you disable session state, you will remove the cookie being set.

Craig.
