## Ok, relax :)

What is your experience - do you have any experience with programming, specifically VB?

What kind of number sequences? Are we talking something complex, or just simple "list all y for a given range of x, when y=2x+1" kind of system?

In order to know where to start, you need to know where you're headed :)

Craig.

## RE: Ok, relax :)

Cheers Craig

I do have *some* experiences with VB, but I've forgotten most of it.

Let me explain my project...

1) I need to generate examples of different types of sequences - arithmetic, geometric progression etc.

2) Blank one item out and ask the user (11-13 year olds) to complete the sequence.

3) Analyse this answer and explain the mistake.
Give the correct answer (along with the generalised rule - in algebra - used to generate the sequence in the first place)

4) Logically increase the complexity/difficulty of the questions according to the user's mistakes (frequency and severity) - hence the questions will need to be classified as they are produced

5) Profile each user and store this info in a database

Not all these features need to be present in the final version, but that is the general idea.

Can you see why I don't know where to start? :)

Herman

## RE: Gees...OK

Right, I'm currently reading the guides for VBScript from msdn - as you suggested.

About generating the sequences, I originally thought that it wouldn't be a problem because...here is how I thought it could be done:

create a Rnd number -> the starting-point/n=1/term1
extend it using "rules" such as adding or multiplying
store in a string or array

Are my way off the mark on that??

Herman

## RE: Gees...OK

No, you can do something along those lines...

This is a big job, was going to sit down and do some functions for you, but it's gonna take longer than I have to sit at this messageboard...

Have an attempt, and if you have any more queries (possibly more specific), post them here and I'll try and help. Would be very interested in the end result! Merry Christmas (or Weinachtstag?)

Craig.

## RE: Gees...OK

Sorry to bother you on all this.
I'm just fustrated at the (lack of) progress of this project.

I haven't actually got anything to write VB at the moment. I used Visual Studio in my first year - and I even got 70%+ marks for my programs :)

Is that still my best bet?

thx

Herman
