Default Protecting non-asp files

I want to make my software available for download once users have registered for it. The problem is that once someone registers he/she can pass the link to the software zip/exe file to anyone. And anyone with the lcoation of the software known can download the file. So how is it possible to protect the non asp files (zip/exe).
Like databases if it is put away in a folder outside of the webroot then how can one make it available to the person who has registered...

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks
ani

Default use the server's built-in auth features.

IIS has basic auth and integrated auth as options. use those.

j
