Default Newbie: SQL/recordset query

I need to check that a recordset doesnt exist in a record set and then add the record.

At the moment I get the recordset and use a while not rs.eof statement to scan all the records before inserting the new record.

Is there a more efficient way to do this??

Thank for your help

Ian Buckland

The link to the ASPFAQs is at the top right corner of most every page on this site, including this one.

For what it's worth, I don't think there a more INefficient way to do it than what you are currently doing. In the FAQ, we quibble over what are probably microseconds. Even the way that Steve "puts down" in the first paragraph would be tons faster.

If you're a newbie, I'd use that method [from the first paragraph of the FAQ] for now. It works. It's good enough for all but the very busiest sites.
