Default Have a question on ASP links...

    Ok, why do most ASP links have 'variables' with them? Such as http://www.aspmessageboard.com/forum/asp.asp?M=208&P=2&F=20&V=0&N=Wes+Hysell

Cou ld someone explain to me how to make these kinds of links? I'm most definately curious on how to. You see, i'm making a site, it will categorize each component by category, for instance, let say i wanted to categorize a Radar/Scanner. The link i'd want would be something like http://www.aspmessageboard.com/daacu/digiscan.asp?cat=radar . I want to do the same with Protection Ware.. so the link would be something like http://www.aspmessageboard.com/daacu/digiscan.asp?cat=shield . So, how do i get the server to tell these apart? Be sure to include any coding i may need for this process, please.

    Well, this is just about as basic an ASP question as there is.

The variables are passed, as you have shown, in the URL. The page that is being called can then access the variables like this

cat = Request.QueryString("Cat")

the variable cat will now hold whatever value was in the url e.g. radar or shield in your examples.
