Default Development Alternatives?

I was hoping if someone could enlighten me with what alternatives exist for databases besides SQL Server and other high-end databases (e.g Oracle, DB2, etc).

How effective is to develop ASP with MySQL and Postegre?

What should I consider?

Default Can you say Access

I guess it all depends on the LOAD your db will have to take....the lowest even an access db will be ok. the higher the load the "better" your db will have to be.
